The light weight convinces

kofler architects planned the required extension of Salzburg’s Gebietskrankenkasse building. The regular grid of the new building envelope combines transparent window openings with closed elements. The main focus is on different materials: concrete skin facade panels in anthracite, for example, were combined with wooden panels. This lends an individual touch to an otherwise stern facade.

Due to difficult ground conditions, the tower had to be given a lightweight construction for static reasons. The glassfibre reinforced concrete elements, a mere 13 mm thin, were therefore ideally suited for the facade. concrete skin can withstand very high loads and enormous slab sizes. It also impressed the architects with its robustness and long service life. Photos: Ditz Fejer
