The Cancer Centre of the University of New Mexico is among the fifty best institutions for cancer research and treatment in the USA. The state-of-the-art five-storey building was designed with sensitivity for patients and visitors in mind. The design focused on large green spaces and a tranquil environment. The building was designed with sustainability in mind, which is why they opted for concrete skin panels. Natural raw materials, durability, low maintenance and total fire resistance are only some of the important ecological factors. Fire protection, eco-friendliness, durable design with low maintenance, and an exceptional finish were the main arguments for the choice of the material. The öko skin facade paints an interesting picture, as the concrete slats are sandblasted to varying degrees, thus promoting a heterogeneous appearance. Photos: Daniel Lunghi
