154 Broadway is a five-story mixed-use building in Somerville, providing space for both commercial units and rental apartments. Large ground-floor windows open shops and residential lobbies to the public realm, while the upper floors feature Rieder ventilated facade slats and subtle color variations, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. The facade reflects the character of the neighborhood: a lively mosaic of colors, materials and textures, with varied tones and rhythmic patterns adding depth and vibrancy. With the aim of achieving Passive House certification and meeting net-zero standards, the building – developed by Utile in partnership with Construction Managers & Developers LLC – combines sustainability with a bold, welcoming presence. 154 Broadway is PHIUS CORE Design-certified, a finalist in the 2023 Architizer A+ Awards and recipient of the 2025 Wood in Architecture Award.
