Wildlife Conservation in Urban Spaces

The former Telekom building, located close to the city centre of Bad Kissingen, has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment and continues to serve as an office and administrative facility. Now renamed "Dienstgebäude Berliner Platz", it houses various departments of the district administration, as well as the district’s municipal enterprise and the Centre for Telemedicine. The modernised facade features concrete skin panels in the colour sahara, inspired by the warm, natural tones of the surrounding landscape. In addition to its aesthetic enhancement, the building also incorporates ecological considerations: specially integrated nesting sites provide common swifts with much-needed shelter, as suitable nesting places in urban areas are becoming increasingly scarce. With this initiative, the city is creating essential living space for its feathered residents while making an important contribution to species conservation. Photos: Ditz Fejer
