The "Kornmarkt" Arcades

Frankfurt am Main, Germany

The “Kornmarkt” arcades were built on the site of the former Federal Audit Office on an area of around 5,000 square metres. It accommodates a hotel, offices and 30 flats. Distinctive elements of the former Federal Court of Audit were preserved and integrated into the new building. The combination of old and new creates a smooth transition from the city centre to the banks of the Main river. The project focuses on high energetic and ecological standards. The sustainable building was awarded the LEED Gold certificate. It comes as no surprise then that the architects at KSP Jürgen Engel have clad parts of the facade with concrete skin panels. The glassfibre reinforced concrete elements are sustainable, durable, non-combustible, free of crystalline silica and made of natural raw materials.
