Main Point Karlin receives LEED PLATINUM certificate

The Office complex Main Point Karlin in Prague has become the first project in the Czech Republic to receive the LEED PLATINUM certificate from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The building reached the highest rating within this prestigious international rating system and is therefore the first building in Central and East Europe with such a high rating.

Main Point Karlin has received appreciation for its distinctive sustainable architecture and high technological level. The Platinum rating was awarded to Main Point Karlin for achieving extraordinary results particularly in the fields of energy utilization, indoor environmental quality and innovations. The energy efficiency of the building up to 38 % better compared to standard office building defined by the ASHRAE standard.

The building uses a number of approaches, among them, use of the River Vltava’s water throughout the summer for building cooling to eliminating the need for compressors and chillers. Cooling is further naturally regulated by the coloured fibreC elements on the facade which are not only aesthetic but serve to reduce heat gains from sunlight penetration. These saddle-like design elements create the unique appearance of the building.
